The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) conducts regular inspections of workplaces in Ireland to assess whether employers are meeting their employment law obligations. A typical WRC inspection will assess HR documentation, workplace policies, and employee records.  

A WRC inspection will usually take place on-site, where the inspector will interview the employer and a sample of employees. They will also review your HR documentation and staff records, assessing whether your policies and procedures are fully compliant with Irish legislation.  

It's important to ensure that your HR documentation is updated on a regular basis, and that your business is always ready for an inspection. As well as conducting an annual review, it's also important to update your documentation every time there is a change in legislation.  

In general, advance notice is usually given ahead of a WRC inspection. However, it's important to be ready for an inspection at all times.  

To prepare for a WRC inspection, it's important to review your employees' files, check that all staff are receiving the correct entitlements, ensure that every employee has received a full employment contract, and organise your staff records.
